Roman Brother Cover of Turf and Sport Digest April, 1966 Roman
Brother is a Thoroughbred that symbolizes the breed. His qualities of class and heart have earned him the admiration
of horsemen wherever he has run. And
he has become the darling of many racing fans. "He
runs like he thinks he can beat any horse in the business," is what his
partisans say of him, and that's a perfect description of the way he performs. Last
year, he won the Manhattan Handicap, the Woodward Stakes and the Jockey
Club Gold Cup. He was regarded as the handicap champion of
1965. In '64, he took the Bahamas,
Everglades, Jersey Derby, American Derby, New Hampshire Sweepstakes and
Discovery Handicap. After
winning an allowance race at Hialeah this year, he finished fourth in
the Seminole Handicap. He injured an ankle in the race and missed
the Widener. His earnings total
$943,473. He stands seventh on
the list of all-time money-winners. Roman Brother runs for Harbor View
Farm of Louis Wolfson, and is trained by Burley Parke. Braulio Baeza is his regular rider. |
